Workshop on the legal compatibility of the EU-Mercosur Partnership Agreement with EU Treaties and commitments

High-level Workshop co-hosted by MEP Saskia Bricmont and CAN Europe: Legal expert debate in the European Parliament on the EU-Mercosur trade agreement.

This high-level event is designed to inform the ongoing debates, both at the EU and national levels, offering concrete legal analysis at a critical moment for the future of EU trade policy and democratic integrity.

During the debate leading legal experts gave input on the re-balancing mechanism, the splitting of the deal, the additional agricultural safeguard measures and the sustainability of the EU-Mercosur trade agreement (in particular in relation to the recent advisory opinion by the International Court of Justice on countries’ climate commitments).
